Initial Setup
Just invited Dicebot? It starts out silent on purpose - nothing rolls until you tell it where to roll. Here's the checklist.
The checklist
- Invite the bot and make sure it can see and send messages in the channels you care about. It also needs to add reactions (for the ‼ reroll) and attach files (for character sheets).
- Pick your dice channel(s). In each one, someone with the
Manage Server permission runs:
This is the master switch - dice,!setchannel active onchoose, coin, and the character generator all stay off in channels you haven't activated. Chat channels stay roll-free, dice channels roll. - Test it: type
!2d6in the activated channel. You should get a result back immediately. - Optional - make it yours. All of these are covered on the
Commands page:
!setprefix ;- use a different command prefix (one character, per server)!setDiceMode prefix- let a bare2d6roll without the prefix; see dice modes for all four options!setchannel shortoutput on- compact one-line results!setchannel bang on/!setchannel sorted on- make every roll in the channel explode / come back sorted
Bot not responding?
Run down this list - it's nearly always one of these:
- The channel isn't activated. Check with
!channelinfo(anyone can run it) - if Active says False, that's the problem. - You typed
2d6without the prefix. The default dice mode only reads messages starting with!. - You typed
2D6- thedmust be lowercase. - Someone changed the prefix. Server settings are per-server, so ask
whoever manages the bot, or try
!channelinfowith the prefix you think is right. - The bot can't see or send in that channel - check its Discord permissions.
